WILL AND TOM

Will and Tom’s wedding at The West Mill was one of my favourite weddings I’ve filmed this year. Great people, brilliant atmosphere, good weather, and a dancefloor that stayed busy all night.

The West Mill is always a venue I enjoy coming back to. I’ve filmed there plenty of times over the years and it’s one of those venues that always delivers. The light is great, there are loads of good spots for photos and video, and it always seems to have a really relaxed feel to it.

This wedding was a little more personal for me too. Will is Jess’s brother, and Jess is someone I’ve known for years. Back when she worked at Stubton Hall she helped get me onto the supplier list, which played a big part in getting my wedding videography business off the ground. I also filmed her wedding to Scott a few years ago, so it was lovely seeing them all again and having a catch-up.

Will and Tom were great fun to film and completely natural together all day. They both looked incredibly sharp, and we had a good laugh during the couple shoot with photographer Kathryn Edwards, who I hadn’t worked with for years.

My favourite moment from the day came during the speeches when they told everyone not to come and say goodbye at the end of the night. Their logic was that saying goodbye to loads of people eats into valuable dancefloor time, and they’d rather spend every minute enjoying the party. Considering the playlist included lots of early-2000s emo and pop-punk, I completely understood the decision. I may have stayed a little later than usual myself.

REBEKAH AND JACK

Rebekah and Jack’s wedding at Swancar Farm Country House had everything I usually love about filming there. Relaxed atmosphere, good people, and surprisingly unreal weather for October. As a Nottingham wedding videographer, I spend a lot of time filming weddings across Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands, and Swancar Farm Country House is always one I’m happy to come back to.

I shoot at Swancar Farm Country House quite a lot, along with other venues around Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands like Hazel Gap Barn, Stubton Hall, Grangefields and Norwood Park. It’s always nice arriving somewhere familiar and already knowing the best light, the good spots, and where people naturally end up during the day. Swancar especially always has a really relaxed atmosphere to it.

The day itself was class from start to finish. Rebekah’s dress looked incredible, the weather fully turned up for them, and everyone was up for a good time from the minute I arrived. One of my favourite parts of the day actually came from the bridesmaids filming loads of little camcorder clips throughout the wedding. They sent me the footage afterwards and I added vintage clips from the tape footage into their wedding film, which worked so well mixed alongside the my footage in 4k.

The funniest clip by far was from the night beefore the wedding where they buried a sausage somewhere in the Swancar Farm Country House grounds. Apparently it’s meant to guarantee good weather on your wedding day. Ridiculous tradition, but honestly… it worked. I heard recently someone upgraded it to a Greggs sausage roll at another wedding and somehow that worked too, so maybe there’s actually something in it.

Massive thanks to Rebekah and Jack for having me there to film it all. Days like this are exactly why I love being a wedding videographer in Nottinghamshire.

VICTORIA AND LIAM

Victoria and Liam were married on a glorious sunny day in June at Hazel Gap Barn. Hazel Gap is one of those venues that always delivers an incredible backdrop for a wedding film. Set on the edge of the estate near Sherwood Forest, the barn mixes rustic character with a big open courtyard. The venue really comes alive in the summer. Victoria spent the morning getting ready with her bridesmaids at The Great Hall, Edwinstowe Hall. When I arrived it was great to see a familiar face among them, I’d actually filmed one of her bridesmaid’s weddings before.

Victoria arrived in style with her dad in a beautiful classic convertible MG. As they pulled up to Hazel Gap Bar, the June sunshine was in full force. Later in the day the couple’s dog made a special appearance for some photos and video. Dogs are weddings are always a massive highlight for me. As the evening rolled in we were treated to some incredible summer light and a proper golden hour. Victoria and Liam absolutely understood the assignment when it came to making the most of it. The shoot with them was effortless and easily one of my favourites of the year.

It’s always a pleasure working at Hazel Gap Barn too, a venue that started to feel like a second home after so many visits last year. The celebrations finished in the best possible way: a packed dancefloor, loads of energy, and at least one guest fully committing to the worm.

ELLIE AND BOBBY

I was booked to provide videography at Ellie and Bobbies wedding on a sunny August day at Stubton Hall. The weather was perfect. One standout moment was Ellie’s grandad giving a brilliant reading of On Your Wedding Day by Anon. It was so memorable that parts of his reading now run through the film as narration.

The whole day felt relaxed and playful. The wedding party were full of fun, and Ellie and Bobby eagerly joined in for photos and video. At one point, they even ran around the gardens playing tag to capture a few shots. Guests laughed constantly. With the August sun shining, everyone enjoyed drinks on the terrace, and the drone footage beautifully highlights Stubton Hall and the surrounding countryside in summer.

The evening carried the same lively spirit. The dancefloor was busy, energy was high, and the day ended with a proper celebration.

BRIONY AND MARK

Briony and Mark’s wedding at Wharfedale Grange was one of those days that sticks with you. It had a bit of everything, great people, a stunning venue, and weather that kept things interesting. During the ceremony we saw a bit of rain roll in. But instead of ruining anything, it actually set the tone. Not long after, the clouds broke into this mix of grey and blue with sunlight cutting through. This made for some seriously good conditions for photography portraits and video. Some of my favourite footage I’ve shot came from that exact window. Proof that a bit of a downpour on a wedding day isn’t the disaster people think it is.

Wharfedale Grange itself is a solid venue. The main barn space has that rustic feel but still feels polished, especially once it’s dressed. It’s the kind of space that doesn’t need overdoing, it already looks the part.

I managed to get some great drone shots on the day too, including following the wedding car as it came in, which always looks awesome on film.

It was a brilliant day and one that actually ended up getting me onto the venue’s supplier list. It was just a genuinely great wedding to be part of and one I’ll be looking back on for a long time.

JENNY AND MARK

Jenny and Mark’s wedding at Aynhoe Park is one I’ll always remember. It had been on my list of venues to film at since I first started out, so finally getting the chance to shoot there was a big one for me. It’s a proper well-known spot too, used for all sorts of high-profile events and you can see why as soon as you walk in.

The place is hard to describe if you’ve never been. It’s like a stately home mixed with a mad museum, taxidermy everywhere, massive statues, and even a giraffe hanging from balloons.

The morning was chilled, both of them getting ready on-site and the lads ended up in the hot tub before things got going. Then out of nowhere there’s a bloke walking around who looks exactly like Gordon Ramsay, turned out to be an impersonator, but I had to do a double take.

Once the day got going, it properly kicked off. The Distractions were playing during the meal, moving around the room while people were up dancing between courses. It had that mix of classy and people down to party. By the evening it was chaos in the best way.

It was back in December 2019 as well, right before all the COVID-19 stuff hit, which makes it stand out even more looking back. Really good day, unreal venue, and one I won’t forget anytime soon.

“Living their best life” Sarah and Dan’s stunning wedding at the incredible Alrewas Hayes. This was our first time visiting the venue Alrewas Hayes Country House located in Burton on Trent in Staffordshire. Wow, we were so lucky to have an incredible sunset over the fields at the back of the venue. The couple shoot was absolutely magical in the twilight romantic setting. Dan and Sarah are an incredible couple and bought lots of their fun, carefree but loving natures to the shoot. The evening of this wedding also blew us away. To our delight almost everyone was up on the dance floor having fun and partying into the night. This allowed us to capture a really enjoyable and memorable evening. This was definitely one of our favourite weddings to capture from 2018. We wish the couple every happiness in the world.

This wedding came towards the end of one of the craziest and busy seasons yet. This was our second time at the beautiful Elizabethan house, Doddington Hall, Lincolnshire. There are four main guest rooms on site. We started our day shooting the bride prep in The stable yard, a beautiful, spacious building with lots of natural light, ideal conditions for great film and photographs! Seconds after walking in the door the bride and bridesmaids were laughing, joking and sharing fun stories with us. It was lovely to work alongside friend and photographer Chris Snowdon and Make up artist Caroline Kent. The moment Beth’s father entered the room and embraced his daughter, there was so much emotion and happiness between the two. After a traditional Lincolnshire church ceremony we returned to Doddington Hall for group photos followed by a stunning couple shoot in the gardens. The Gardens at Doddington Hall are not lacking, we literally could have spent hours being creative with these shots. The speeches were amusing, romantic and provided us with some great snippets to use in the cinematic short film. Overall we had an amazing day, Beth and Luke are a gorgeous couple and a pleasure as always working with a great team of suppliers.

The West Mill in Derbyshire is a popular choice for bride and grooms this year and we can see why. We had a lovely, fun and delightful day with Rob and Victoria, using the outdoor grounds by the river that are great for couple shoot, video and photos. One of the many things that stood out to us about the day is that Victoria made a speech instead of the groom. This started with a fun and unique game where the wedding guests and family had to vote with a pink or blue cards on a series of couple disagreements. These amusing questions included things such as “Who do we think is right most of the time”, “Who leaned in to kiss who first” and “Who do we think is the better driver.” Victoria went on to tell the amazingly romantic story of how the two met on holiday and Rob decided to catch a later flight home to spend more time with her. Over all this day was magical from start to finish, we wish Rob and Victoria all the best in future years to come!

Gorgeous couple, stunning venue and a perfect day. Katie and Phil were humerous, adventurous and fun to work with. We love that they wanted to make the most out of the drone, giving us time to get some amazing shots during the couple shoot. It definitely paid off! I spent the wedding morning at Katies house working alongside familuar faces Marie Anson Photography and Josephine Way Make up Artist. The Vibe was very relaxed and lots of fun laughs were had. The ceremony was a wonderful church service, afterwards I went ahead to Swancar Farm to capture Katie and Phil arriving in a lovely traditional wedding card. The weather was great so we made the most out of shooting the group and couple shots outside on the beautiful grounds of Swancar Farm.
